Modern Neoclassical

We love interior design, so when we’re mixing it up to create challenges we sometimes come across combinations that shouldn’t work, but really do – they’re the sweet and sour of the design world!

Neoclassical design is a celebration of timeless design. In architecture think columns and plinths, in interiors you get grand, timeless design. Rooms that can be described as neoclassical have grand scale, with large light fittings, long curtains and using marble or stone items to achieve a classical design. So when it comes to modern neoclassical it does sound like we’re putting two things together that really shouldn’t go. The modern in this design gives neoclassical a twist, adding the ability to use it in smaller rooms, with some extra color and soft furnishings. This can create some stunning room designs.

The winners of this week’s challenges have mixed classical with modern successfully, you can see in the dining room and bedroom designs have grand light fittings and use panels of color that give the rooms height, but their furnishings look more modern. The winning bathroom design also has a lovely classical light fitting, using marble for the sink and a large mirror is all very classical and it is complimented with the more modern wallpaper.

Festive Fireplace & Living Room Design

In this festive fireplace & living room design with Christmas decor challenge designers were asked to help Grant. He had just gone through a busy spell in work and is ready to hibernate this winter. He has upgraded his fireplace and invested in some bespoke units to complete this space. His go to look is glam but with this space he wants to make sure it is cosy too.

This was voted as the winning Luxury festive fireplace living room design, by our Instagram followers.  The designer has created an inspiring living room idea complete with Christmas decor using the Room Creator App.  The use of dark wood floor and gold framed coffee and side tables against the red and black backdrop all add to the glamorous festive feel of the design.

Eclectic Living Room Idea

In this eclectic living room idea with room plan the designers were asked to help Felicity who had hung the artwork and just needed their loving design TLC to make the space cosy and inviting. Add some cushions and plants to soften the look.  They were also asked to give status to the her favourite item the soft pink Bella Rose Velvet Armchair from Graham & Greene.

This was voted as the winning Eclectic Living Room idea, by our Instagram followers.  The designer has created an inspiring living room design using the Room Creator App.  The use of the vibrant blue wall panelling colour and the Burgundy Living Room accent wall stand out further due to the neutral floor and sofa colours.

This room layout idea has a number of great zones.  For example the beautifully styled living room corner with the soft pink Bella rose accent chair, from Graham and Green, that is Felicity’s favourite. The gorgeous azure blue cabinet style sideboard, available at Made in Design, has been styled fabulously and it has both a functional purpose as well.

The third zone is around the fireplace idea that is situated between two rattan style sideboards under a fabulously eclectic wicker wall mirror. from, Barker and Stonehouse.  The final decor is provided by the maximalist wall art which stands out from the vibrantly eclectic wall colours.

Zen Lounge Styling

A Warm beige Japandi Style Living Room.

After

This warm beige Japandi Style Living Room ideas was created as part of a design challenge.  In the challenge the designers were tasked with Alice, a busy fashion journalist, who loves Japandi style interior design and is delighted with this airy living space she will soon get to call home.

The winning designer created a Japandi style living room idea.  It has a warm beige colour scheme which creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere.  The coffee table creates a delightful centrepiece with candles on top and a gorgeous room divider in the corner.  We especially love the sideboard decor that adds to the overall feel of the room and blend beautifully with the Japandi style window framing.  The black floor lamp corner in front of the contemporary side table are complemented by the warm beige sofa and the abstract wall art. The plants around the room create a fantastic natural feel to the space and to the quality of the design

Mid Century Dining

In this Mid Century Dining Room Layout design challenge the designers were asked to style and soften the room. In particular to focus on the bay window area with a comfy chair, table, lamp. They were also asked to style the sideboard decor to match in with the more neutral tone of the room.

This was voted as the winning Mid Century Dining Room Layout idea, by our Instagram followers.  The designer has created an inspiring dining room design using the Room Creator App.  The use of neutral floor and wall colours have made the decor and wall art stand out in the room.

This room layout idea has a number of great zones.  For example the beautifully styled Mid Century Sideboard with great decor on top provides a functional purpose as well as adding the room style.  The bay window has been filled with an accent chair, side table and lamp as outlined in the specification.  The stylish green mid century accent chair is elevated by the ornate table lamp.  The third and final zone around the dining table centre piece is based around the flamboyant wall art.  This yellow and blue art would be sure to be a talking point to a dinner party that this room is truly suited too.

Dream Farmhouse Master Bedroom

In this dream farmhouse master bedroom design challenge the designers were asked to support Nora was treating herself to a living room refresh.  She found the perfect rug which will be her starting point. She always loved this space due to the big windows & the natural light, but there are a few disastrous interior choices that she needed to fix!  She wanted fresh neutrals with some deep blue accents to achieve an understated Modern Farmhouse look!

This was voted as the winning farmhouse master bedroom room idea design, by our Instagram followers.  The designer has created an inspiring bedroom design using the Room Creator App.  As a result of adding blue wall panelling the designer has altered the entire room.

This farmhouse bedroom idea has a number of great zones.  For example the six drawer chest  is used as the focal point for the storage room.  The arched black framed wall mirror above the chest is complemented by the vase with pampas grass.  Another great zone is the seating area with the sheepskin accent chairs.  These chairs are then flanked by plants and the circular rattan style wall light.

The final zone but by no means least is the bed area.  The curvy farmhouse bed is supported by the addition of the bench and cushions along the wall.  The last part of this area is the creative use of large format wall art which provides a unique touch to the overall room.

Boho Barn Conversion

Room Creator App Master Boho Bedroom Design

In this remodel challenge, Designers were tasked with creating a Master Boho Bedroom using the Room Creator App. Assisting Jen create a boho master bedroom design.  Jen had just bought a converted barn and couldn’t have been more delighted with how much character exuded from the space. She felt a distinctive boho concept would work best in her bedroom.

Before and After

The winning design as voted for by our instagram followers created a fantastic boho master style bedroom idea with a neutral palette and dark coloured wall panelling.  Each part of the room has clearly been carefully thought out. We love how the sheepskin accent chair has become the centrepiece of this corner of this room with shaggy texture and neutral colour. The black framed wall mirror (from Wayfair), provides a practical feature to the opposite bedroom corner.  We love the half height wall panelling with the rattan tables and striking green plants in a third corner of this room.

We love to see how the Signaturize room creator app has been used to create this boho master bedroom design that meets Jen’s expectations!

Bathroom Revamp

Blue Bathroom Design with Metro Tiled Walls

In this bathroom design challenge players were asked to help Rachael who had fallen in love her new bathroom furniture and wanted to style her room with a coastal theme.

Before and After

The winning designer created a beautiful coastal themed blue bathroom design, with metro wall tiles and black and white floor. They achieved the blue theme with the carefully considered vanity and toilet unit blue colour choice. These were then augmented with the abstract line drawing (available from Abstract House) which adds to the blue design theme with its dominant colour. The choice of black and white bathroom flooring blends well with the blue bathroom furniture and provides a foundation for the other accessories.

The black and white floor which provided the foundation for this design is then augmented by the contemporary black framed wall mirrors (Available from Furniture Village) and towel radiator. The white theme is then reflected throughout the room via the metro tiles which give a vintage feel to the room that is further drawn on by the vintage style free standing bath.

The designer then lifts the room and gives an even more coastal theme with delicate placement of plants within this coastal blue bathroom design.  There is no doubt that Rachael will love this design!

Nautical Living

Combined Kitchen and Living Coastal Decor Idea

After

In this challenge were asked to help Rob who was starting from scratch in the midst of a big career change and life overhaul. The task was to create a superb living area layout, which will then require your exemplary design eye if this design is going to have a sublime nautical style, which shouts “flawless beauty.”

Before and After

The winning created a fabulous coastal design and merged the kitchen and living spaces together seemingly effortlessly. We think Rob will be delighted.  The blue wall paneling beside the kitchen island is elevated by the fantastic abstract wall art.

The thread of Coastal blue continues as your eye moves past the grey corner sofa to the delightful blue accent armchair that can be purchased from Barker & Stonehouse.  The accent chair has been complimented by the intricate rug design and blue vases upon the wicker side table.  The console table with mirror and table lamp also provide another focal zone within this fantastic design!

First Home Victoria

Dining Room 3D Room Plan in App

After

In this challenge you 3d room interior designers were asked to use the App to help Emily who had secured her new two bed apartment in London Victoria.  She had been given the opportunity to customise her kitchen space. A friend had encouraged Emily to make her treasured piece of artwork the centre piece and she wanted you to do just that!

Designers were encouraged to change kitchen door, worktop and wall colours to complete this space.

Before and After

The winning design, as voted for on Instagram, used the room plan app to create a modern turquoise kitchen & diner.  We love the turquoise dining chairs that compliment Emily’s wall art as suggested by her friend.  The choice of kitchen door colour creates a continuity of this theme but is brought further to life with use of grey doors.  We adore the flamboyant gold framed pendant light that provides beautiful illumination to the dining space.

This virtual kitchen diner design is a fantastic example of how use of colours in the various features of a room can create a truly special 3d room which can then be turned into a reality!
